Feeding a Hungry World

Guatemala 2006

Christian Children's Fund in Guatemala

In a proof-of-concept program sponsored by the USAID and the Christian Children's Fund in Guatemala, 67,000 pre-school children were given one NutraCea RiceAde™ drink each school day for 6 months. Of the randomly selected children who were evaluated, 37% were determined to be suffering from stages 1 or 2 of malnutrition at the program's onset. Within 90 days, none were classified as stage 2 and just 5% remained in stage 1. And more than 50% re-gained normal weight levels.

NutraCea conducted a similar program in El Salvador, and has signed agreements to facilitate feeding programs in other countries including the Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Trinidad, Barbados, Ecuador, Colombia, Nicaragua and Cost Rica.

Such programs illustrate the enormous potential for low-cost, highly nutritious products like RiceAde™ and other products derived from NutraCea's stabilized rice bran.

RiceAde™ is designed to:

  • Decrease infant mortality
  • Reduce malnutrition
  • Improve cerebral capacity
  • Improve fetal development
  • Improve adult productivity
  • Reduce dependency on foreign aid
