He brings over 25 years experience and has held senior positions with consumer products and financial services businesses in North America, South America, Asia and Europe including President & COO of Hong Kong-based Esprit Far East Ltd., CEO of Dusseldorf-based Esprit Europe, CEO of San Francisco-based global licensing company Esprit International, CEO/President & COO of Joe Boxer, Inc. and EVP North America of Miami based Sunglass Hut International. Mr. Short also spent over a decade in corporate banking, government lending and financial institutions lending with Citibank in New York, Venezuela, Ecuador and Hong Kong. Mr. Short graduated from Dartmouth College and the Thunderbird School of Global Management.

Dale Belt, Chief Financial OfficerJ.Dale Belt, CPA brings over thirty years of experience in finance and accounting including strategic planning, due diligence, cash flow analysis, financial forecasting, and SEC reporting issues. Prior to joining NutraCea on June 15, 2010, Dale was the Managing Director of Sierra Consulting Group’s restructuring practice based in Phoenix, Arizona. Prior to that he was a Director and Managing Director in the restructuring practices of PricewaterhouseCoopers and FTI Consulting, Inc., respectively. Before beginning his consulting career as a turnaround and restructuring professional, Mr. Belt spent over fifteen years in the private sector where he held various senior management positions including treasurer, CFO and president. His significant industry experience includes, among others, heavy manufacturing industries, wholesale/retail food manufacturing and beverage marketing and distribution. Mr. Belt has a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Kentucky. He is a Certified Public Accountant licensed in Kentucky, as well as a Certified Turnaround Professional and Certified Insolvency and Restructuring Advisor. He is a current member of the Turnaround Management Association and served as the Arizona Chapter President in 2007 and 2008. He is also a member of the Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Advisors.
![]() David Hutchinson, Senior Vice President - OperationsMr. Hutchinson brings 18 years of edible oil processing, research and technical expertise to the company, specializing in vegetable oils such as rice bran oil and flax oil. Mr. Hutchinson most recently worked with BiOriginal Food and Science in Saskatoon, Canada, overseeing Canadian product regulatory compliance while also serving as an operations and technical consultant on flaxseed oils, marine oils and encapsulated neutraceutial products. Prior to his employment in Canada, Mr. Hutchinson was employed by Riceland Foods in Stuttgart, Arkansas where for over a decade, he specialized in rice bran oil process modifications aimed at developing new ways to isolate functional components present in rice bran and rice bran oil. Mr. Hutchinson earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Nicholls State University and served as an adjunct faculty professor for Phillips Community College in Stuttgart, Arkansas, teaching introductory Oilseed Processing and Technology.
![]() Robert Smith,PhD Senior Vice President - Business DevelopmentDr. Smith brings over 20 years' experience managing research and development programs in both academia and the private sector, and developing product and business opportunities for botanical ingredients and plant-derived molecules in the agricultural, human and animal nutrition, and pharmaceutical industries. Previously he served as Director of Business Development at HerbalScience Group, a leader in the development of evidence-based functional ingredients from botanicals. Dr. Smith has also directed research and development programs at Global Protein Products Inc. and PhycoGen Inc., and has led research projects at Dekalb Genetics, a Monsanto Company. Dr. Smith served as Research Assistant Professor at the AgBiotech Center at Rutgers University and did Post-Doctoral work in Plant Molecular Biology at the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Smith holds a Doctor of Philosophy Degree in Molecular Genetics and Cell Biology and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Biology, both from the University of Chicago.
![]() Colin Garner, Senior Vice President of SalesMr. Garner joined NutraCea as Senior Vice President of Sales in September 2010. He brings with him over 20 years of experience and has held senior positions with Industrial Food & Flavor companies throughout his career. His experiences within the technical and functional food ingredients industry spans the United States, Canada, Latin America, Europe, Asia & the Pacific Rim. Previously he has held Global Director/Vice President, Sales & Marketing positions with Premium Ingredients International, Kerry Ingredients & Flavours, Chaucer Foods Incorporated & Sensient Technologies. He has a proven track record developing and maintaining customer relationships at regional, national and international levels in various food and beverage sectors. Mr. Garner graduated from Swindon Technical College & Cheltenham & Gloucester University, England UK, with a post graduate degree in Business Management Studies (DMS). |
